Baracha Dunn House 1798

Video to be updated soon.

Oldest Surviving Building in Downtown Millville

The Baracha Dunn House is located at 204-206 East Main Street, Millville, NJ 08332, next to the Millville Historical Society's Headquarters at Second and Main Streets.

Built for Baracha Dunn (1775–1858), who arrived in the village of Millville in Maurice River Township at age 22, the house sits on land he purchased from his former militia commander, Joseph Buck. Dunn had served under Millville's founder in the Cumberland County Militia in 1793. He later moved to Ohio, where he founded the town of Lockland.
Over the years, this landmark building has served many roles: a family residence, a seafood restaurant (oyster house), a candy store (confectionery), a grocery store, and finally a barber shop. Saved from demolition in 1992 when the City of Millville sold it to the Millville Historical Society, the house was lovingly restored by dedicated volunteers. It is now proudly listed on the Register of Historic Structures and Sites in Cumberland County.
